HALLASAN HIKING GEAR
Hallasan hiking gear rental
If you did not bring hiking shoes, you can arrange gear on Jeju. Plan the rental period, shoe size, pickup before departure and return after your hike together.
Travel planning at a glance
Private rental services on Jeju offer hiking shoes, poles, crampons and backpacks. For an early hike, plan to collect gear the day before. Check shoe-size availability, payment and contact methods, and where and when to return gear after your hike. We could not verify an official source for ongoing free rentals at public visitor centers.

Compare rental prices and periods for hiking shoes, poles and crampons
Prices below are those listed on official product pages on 2026-10-21. The pages’ publication or update dates are unknown. We did not check trip-date stock or final checkout totals; confirm included items, rental period and extra charges before ordering.
| Shop and product | Listed price | Rental period and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Oshare hiking shoes, basic poles and backpack | ₩19,000 | Base period: 24 hours. Confirm separately whether winter gear such as crampons is included. |
| Oshare hiking shoes and poles | ₩17,000 | Base period: 24 hours. Check availability for your date and size. |
| Oshare chain crampons, single item | ₩5,000 | Base period: 24 hours. Choose a size to fit your shoes; substitutes may be offered for some sizes. |
| OutdoorHQ itemized price list | Hiking shoes, jacket and backpack: ₩15,000 each · Poles, crampons and gaiters: ₩5,500 each | The product description says 3 days by default, while the same product’s order option says 1 night/2 days. Confirm which rental period applies. |
Oshare says an extra charge equal to 50% of the 24-hour rate applies for up to 8 additional hours. Confirm charges for longer use. Package names such as Seongpanak or Yeongsil describe the package; they do not grant trail access or constitute a trail reservation.
The product description says 3 days by default, while the options show 1 night/2 days, 2 nights/3 days for an extra ₩5,500, and 3 nights/4 days for an extra ₩8,250. These add-on prices apply to that product’s options and cannot be assumed for every item. Confirm the rental period, quantity and final price first. Check whether poles are supplied as a pair for each product.
What should international visitors check before booking and paying?
Oshare offers a KakaoTalk checkout route for non-members. OutdoorHQ describes booking by phone or message, remote identity verification and bank transfer. The public pages we reviewed do not confirm foreign-number or international-card acceptance, passport checks, or English- or Chinese-speaking staff. Do not assume booking is either possible or impossible; ask about the following:
- Your travel date, stock for your foot length (mm) and clothing size, and how to exchange items that do not fit
- Whether you can book with an international phone number or email, available support languages, and how gear use is explained at pickup
- Accepted payment methods, including international cards; whether passports are accepted; deposits; and damage or loss charges
- What ID information is needed for remote verification and how ID photos are stored and deleted
- Exact pickup and return addresses and times, and conditions for inter-branch returns, delivery and on-site returns
- Refund, credit and extension terms for partial or full trail closures, personal cancellations and flight delays
Oshare’s crampon product says its instructional video has English subtitles. This does not mean staff offer customer support in English. Oshare’s terms describe a separate credit rule for full Hallasan trail closures, so do not assume you will receive a free refund. Confirm how OutdoorHQ applies its weather-extension and full-closure-extension wording to your order.
Plan transport from the day-before pickup through post-hike return
| Rental shop | Published location and contact | Check before departure |
|---|---|---|
| Oshare | Korean address: 제주시 용문로 4, 1층 · 064-803-3010 | Store hours listed as 08:00–21:00. Plan to pick up the day before an early start. |
| OutdoorHQ Jeju Airport branch | Korean address: 제주시 연북로 45 · 010-3953-0307 | Located at an address in Nohyeong-dong, not inside the airport. Confirm the actual handover location and service time for your booking. |
| OutdoorHQ Seogwipo branch | Korean address: 서귀포시 대정읍 중산간서로 2934 · 010-3953-0307 | This is separate from central Seogwipo and the trailheads. Confirm pickup arrangements in advance, including for unmanned collection. |
- Pick up the day before · Check trail reservations, weather and closures, and try on the shoes. Check crampon compatibility and pole operation before heading to your accommodation. Plan same-day pickup only if the shop has confirmed it can hand over the gear at that time.
- Transport to the trailhead · Plan the route from your accommodation to a bus stop or booked pickup, then to the actual trailhead. Account for shop opening hours, trail reservations and intermediate checkpoint cutoffs.
- Descent and return · From your actual trail exit, go to a confirmed on-site return point or shop, then to your accommodation or the airport. If you finish on a different trail, also plan how to retrieve a vehicle left at the starting point.
Oshare’s on-site return is a ₩10,000 option booked with the gear. It is unavailable when all four main trails are fully closed. Confirm the collection point, time, eligible trails and charging unit. Keep a return trip to the shop in your plan until on-site return is confirmed.
That OutdoorHQ product’s options list delivery at ₩20,000 one way or ₩40,000 round trip. Distinguish this gear-rental delivery option from the general notice for free parcel shipping. Confirm your accommodation address, delivery date and whether return collection is available. Compare the rental fee plus transport, delivery, return and overtime costs, and allow for a delayed descent on your departure day.
How do seasonal preparation and day-of gear requirements differ?
Hallasan’s official general guidance recommends spare clothing and emergency food for rapidly changing weather, and warm clothing, crampons, gloves and warm water in winter. This is general preparation advice; it does not mean one specific set of clothing is mandatory on every date and trail.
In summer, prepare for rain, wind and wet ground. In spring and autumn, check for high-altitude winds, lingering snow and ice. In winter, check the fit and condition of hiking shoes and traction gear, and bring insulating layers, gloves and spare socks. Renting gear does not replace assessing your fitness, hiking experience, the weather and trail closures.
An official notice posted on 2025-03-31 required mountaineering crampons, gaiters and poles on the Gwaneumsa summit section on 2025-04-01. This is a date-specific example of gear requirements in spring; do not apply its meeting time or equipment requirements to every hike today. Do not assume a product name meets current requirements; compare the actual gear with official guidance and on-site instructions.
For some sizes, rental crampons may be substituted with another product, so check the actual item and how to wear it at pickup. Reservation times, trailhead entry cutoffs, intermediate checkpoint cutoffs and summit descent deadlines are separate conditions.
Compare a gear-included Witse Oreum tour with renting gear separately
The Klook winter product we reviewed lists English-, Chinese- and Korean-speaking guides, transport, lunch, crampons and poles. It visits Witse Oreum and is different from a Baengnokdam summit hike. Hiking shoes and warm clothing are not confirmed as included, so ask the operator what to bring.
Renting gear separately lets you choose your own trail and transport. For a tour, confirm the language actually used, meeting and return points, availability on your date and cancellation terms. Supplied gear and a guide do not guarantee trail access or completion.
FAQs before renting hiking gear
Can I rent hiking gear for free at a Hallasan visitor center?
We could not verify an official source for ongoing free rentals for general visitors. Do not assume a visitor center has gear; check stock and pickup arrangements with private rental shops before your hike.
Can I book with a foreign phone number and an international card?
The rental shops’ public information we reviewed does not confirm whether they accept foreign phone numbers or international cards, allow passport checks, or offer staff support in other languages. Contact them with your visit date and shoe size to confirm booking, payment and ID requirements.
Can I pick up gear on the morning of an early hike?
Pickup hours must work with your hike and transport plans. Oshare lists store hours as 08:00–21:00, so plan to collect gear the day before an early start. Confirm the exact pickup time and handover with other shops too, including unmanned pickup.
Can I return gear at Hallasan?
Oshare offers a ₩10,000 on-site return option when booked with gear. Confirm the exact location, time, eligible trails and charging unit; Oshare says the service does not operate when all four main trails are fully closed.
Will I get a rental refund if weather closes the trails?
Oshare’s terms describe a separate credit rule for full trail closures. OutdoorHQ’s duration and extension notices have differing conditions, so confirm the terms for your order. Check refund, credit and extension rules separately for partial closures, full closures and personal cancellations.
Does a gear-included tour provide hiking shoes too?
The Klook winter tour to Witse Oreum that we reviewed lists crampons and hiking poles, but we could not confirm that hiking shoes or warm clothing are included. It visits Witse Oreum; this is different from a Baengnokdam summit route.
Research date and scope
We reviewed public shop product pages, terms and options on 2026-10-21. The pages’ publication and update dates are unknown; we did not call, book, pay or check date-specific stock. The text distinguishes the posting date of the past official notice from the date it applied. We could not verify an official source for ongoing free rentals at public visitor centers; do not interpret this as proof that no such service exists.
