Getting around Jeju

From the airport to your accommodation, by bus to a volcanic hill, or by ferry to one of Jeju's smaller islands: combine transport options and focus on one area each day for a more relaxed trip.

Travel planning at a glance

Combine buses, rental cars, taxis, pre-booked vehicles, walking and cycling to suit your itinerary on Jeju. Check your accommodation's exact address, the entrance to your destination, transfer waiting times and your return journey. For island visits, choose your departure port and return ferry first.

01 / FROM THE AIRPORT

Where are you heading from Jeju Airport?

Even if your accommodation is listed as being in Seogwipo, the journeys to Jungmun Tourist Complex, central Seogwipo, Namwon and Seongsan are different. Use the exact address on your booking confirmation to plan the route, including the final stretch from the bus stop to your accommodation's entrance.

Accommodation areaTransport options to compare firstCheck the final stretch
Jeju City and the old townCity bus or taxi from the airportDongmun Market, Tapdong, Sinjeju and Iho are different areas. If you have a lot of luggage or are staying down a side street, check the walk from the nearest bus stop to the entrance.
Hamdeok, Gujwa and SeongsanCombine eastern express and mainline buses. Check connections such as route 111 towards Seongsanpo Port and route 201 for coastal villages.Express bus transfer stops may be some distance from seaside accommodation. In Hamdeok, Woljeong-ri, Sehwa and Seongsan, the best stop depends on your accommodation's address.
Pyoseon and NamwonExpress services towards Pyoseon, such as routes 121 and 122, or mainline bus connectionsDistinguish accommodation near Pyoseon Beach and Jeju Folk Village from places in the uplands. In Namwon, check the final stretch separately for coastal and inland addresses.
Aewol, Hallim and HangyeongA bus from the airport, or a connection at Jeju Bus Terminal to a western mainline or express serviceLook up routes such as 102 and 202 for your travel date. Aewol Cafe Street, Hyeopjae, Geumneung and the Jeoji uplands are all in western Jeju, but require different transfers and walks.
Jungmun Tourist ComplexAirport limousine bus 600 or 601, a taxi or a pre-booked vehicleRoute 601 runs towards the convention center. Check that the stop matches your hotel's exact name and location.
Central Seogwipo and the new townCompare routes such as 600, 800, 801, 181 and 182 for your destination.Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market, Seogwipo Port, Seogwipo Bus Terminal and Innovation City are different destinations. Choose by the stop where you need to get off, rather than the route name.
Hallasan and the uplandsConnect to a bus for your chosen trail from Jeju Bus Terminal or another interchange, or use a taxi or rental car.Seongpanak, Gwaneumsa, Eorimok and Yeongsil have different entrances. From the Yeongsil Ticket Office bus stop, there is an additional walk to the trailhead.

Where to board at the airport · Check the official signs for regular buses near Gate 2, regular taxis across the pedestrian crossing outside Gate 3, and the route 600 limousine bus near Gate 5. Pre-booked taxis and rental car shuttles use separate designated areas.

If you arrive late at night, check the last bus for that date and the latest rental car collection time first. Allow time after landing to collect your baggage and reach the boarding area.

Arriving at Jeju Port

Ferries may use different piers and terminals at Jeju Port. Check the route from the arrival terminal on your ticket to the bus stop, and consider a taxi to your accommodation if you have heavy luggage. If you plan to collect a rental car after disembarking, confirm whether the company offers port pickup and where you will actually collect the car.

02 / JEJU BY BUS

Express buses between areas, local buses into villages

Buses connect Jeju's main areas, but not every attraction is right beside a stop. Along with the journey time shown on a map, check transfer waiting times, the walk to the entrance and the last bus back as well.

TypeTypical route numbers and purposeHow to use them
ExpressRoutes starting with 1
Routes such as 101, 102, 111, 121, 122, 181 and 182
Compare these for journeys between major interchanges. Even if a route passes your destination, it may not stop at every village bus stop.
MainlineRoutes starting with 2
Routes such as 201, 202, 240 and 281
These connect coastal villages and the uplands. Check the actual journey time on stretches with more stops than express services.
Jeju City and Seogwipo mainline busesRoute numbers starting with 3 or 5Use these to reach the old town, city hall and city accommodation, and to connect between major hubs.
Local and rural servicesRoute numbers starting with 4, 6 or 7These can take you farther into villages, but services may be infrequent and operating hours limited. Check the timetable first.
Airport limousine buses600·601 / 800·801These serve accommodation around Jungmun Tourist Complex and Seogwipo. Routes in the same group can have different stops and termini.
Tourist shuttle busesEastern routes 810-1 and 810-2
Western routes 820-1 and 820-2
These connect Daecheon and Donggwang transfer stops with attractions and volcanic hills. Check your return bus time before setting off on foot.

Eastern route 810: volcanic hills and forests

These routes connect Daecheon Transfer Stop with attractions around Bijarim Forest, Seonheul and Songdang. The loop runs in different directions, so compare the order of stops on 810-1 and 810-2. Also check the walking distance from the stop for a volcanic hill to the actual trailhead.

Western route 820: a day in the uplands

These routes connect Donggwang Transfer Stop with attractions in the western uplands. Combine museums, tea fields and gotjawal forests at a relaxed pace, checking entry times and the next bus so you have enough time at each place. Consult the latest route map for temporary diversions or route changes.

Transport cards and transfers

Have your transport card ready and check its balance before boarding. For transfers and distance-based fares, it is a good idea to tap your card when both boarding and getting off. Distance-based fares and transfer calculations may differ on express and limousine buses, and transfer benefits may differ when several people use one card. Check the Jeju Bus Information System for exact fares and transfer conditions.

For Hallasan, search by trail name

Check route 281 for Seongpanak, and route 240 and the trail access information for Yeongsil and Eorimok. Find out whether the hike starts where you get off or whether you need to walk farther to the trailhead. Match public transport times to the trail entry deadline, and make sure the first bus does not arrive after your reserved hiking time.

03 / RENT A CAR

Explore volcanic hills and coastal villages at your own pace

A rental car is convenient if you are visiting several activity venues or staying in the uplands. Compare coverage terms, driver eligibility and collection and return times, as well as the daily rental price.

  1. Before booking · Check the driver's age, how long they have held their licence, additional driver registration, child seats and luggage space. If you are using a foreign licence, check the company's requirements for your licence, International Driving Permit and passport.
  2. Compare coverage · Compare the actual contracts for deductibles, coverage limits, and whether single-vehicle accidents, tyres, wheels and loss-of-use charges are included. Do not assume that policies described as 'full coverage' all provide the same protection.
  3. Collection after arriving at the airport · Go to the rental car shuttle boarding area specified by your company and collect your car at its depot. Allow time for waiting for the shuttle and checking paperwork before your first activity.
  4. Before setting off · Check the car's exterior and fuel or battery level, and save the emergency contact details and return location.
  5. Returning the car · Meet the required fuel or battery level for return, complete the vehicle inspection and then take the airport shuttle. Do not schedule the car return for your flight's departure time.

If you choose an electric car

Check the charging method, any charging card supplied by the company, charging stations near your accommodation and the required battery level on return. Before a hike or island trip, consider where the car will be parked for a long time and its remaining range.

Mountain roads and parking at volcanic hills

Weather on mountain roads such as the 1100 Road and 5·16 Road differs from the coast. Check for road restrictions in fog, icy conditions or strong winds, and use official car parks at volcanic hills. Trail access restrictions and parking availability are separate matters.

04 / TAXI & RESERVED RIDES

Use taxis for the parts of the journey that need them

Consider taxis when travelling from the airport with luggage, visiting an activity venue far from a bus stop or travelling with family. At Jeju Airport, the regular taxi rank and designated pickup areas for app-booked taxis are separate.

Estimated fares vary with traffic, distance, vehicle type and booking method. For longer journeys, enter your departure time and passenger count as well as your destination when comparing options, and plan your return after the activity.

05 / SLOWER WAYS TO GO

Cycling, walking and day tours

Cycle a section of the coast

The Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path connects coastal sights over about 234km. You can choose a section near your accommodation instead of riding the whole route. Even where a map marks a cycle path, some sections meet roads, so consider strong winds, traffic and sunset time.

If you are taking a bicycle on a ferry or plane, check its separate transport conditions. For local rentals, compare return locations, opening hours and support in case of a breakdown.

Olle trails may start and finish in different places

Check the route's start and finish before walking. If you leave your car at one end, you will need a bus or taxi back. Choose a section that fits your return transport rather than pushing yourself to complete the whole route.

A day without driving: bus tours and activity transfers

An eastern or western Jeju bus tour, or an activity with pickup, can bring your transport together. Check whether pickup is from your accommodation or whether you must reach a designated meeting point yourself, and whether admission and meals are included. Compare the booked itinerary and time for exploring on your own too.

06 / ISLAND HOPPING

Visiting Jeju's smaller islands: plan your return ferry first

Ferries to Udo, Gapado, Marado, Chujado and Biyangdo leave from different ports. When booking, check which port you depart from and which port you return to first. Weather can cause cancellations or changes to return times, so avoid fitting an island visit into a tight schedule just before your flight.

IslandsDeparture port and connectionsWhen planning your itinerary
UdoSeongsan Port or Jongdal PortThis fits well with a visit to Seongsan or Gujwa. Check your arrival port on Udo, the port you will return to and the season's last ferry first. On the island, compare options such as walking, buses and bicycles.
GapadoUnjin Port (Moseulpo South Port), Daejeong-eupYou can combine this with Moseulpo or Sanbangsan. Check how much time your outbound and return sailings allow on the island, and make sure you go to the correct departure ticket office.
MaradoUnjin Port or Songaksan Port (Sanisu-dong)Do not confuse the ticket offices and operators at the two departure points. Check your booked return sailing and how much time your round trip allows on the island.
ChujadoSailings linked with Jeju Port and Jindo PortCheck Seaworld's Santa Monica schedule for connections with Chujado. Confirm whether a sailing is direct or calls at Chujado, check your return service and allow flexibility for the weather.
BiyangdoHallim PortYou can combine this with Hyeopjae and Geumneung. This is a different island from the Biyangdo beside Udo that shares its name. Check your return ferry and arrival pier.

Check the conditions before taking a rental car to Udo. According to VisitJeju, restrictions on vehicles from outside the island have been extended from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2029. Conditional exceptions include some electric or hydrogen rental cars and vehicles used by people with mobility needs or overnight guests on Udo. Check the latest official information for the vehicle and passenger eligibility criteria.

Rules for rented two-wheelers and electric mobility devices may vary by vehicle type and conditions. Check separately whether the vehicle can be taken on the ferry and whether it may be used on the island.

Public sources checked: 13 October 2026. For stops, timetables, fares, boarding conditions and vehicle restrictions, follow the official information for your travel date.

Frequently asked travel questions

What should I check when sightseeing by bus on Jeju?

Check the route number and destination, as well as transfer waiting times, the walk from the bus stop to the attraction entrance, and the last bus for your return journey. Use express buses between the main areas, then mainline, local or tourist shuttle buses to get closer to your destination.

Should I allow extra travel time when collecting a rental car at the airport?

You may need to take a shuttle from the airport pickup area specified by your rental company to the car collection point. Check the company's collection and return locations and shuttle times. On your departure day, allow enough time between returning the car and checking in at the airport.

Do ferries to Udo, Gapado and Marado leave from the same port?

They leave from different ports. For Udo, compare departures from Seongsan Port and Jongdal Port; for Gapado, use Unjin Port; and for Marado, compare Unjin Port and Songaksan Port. Check the actual departure port and return sailing for your booking.
