From brand shopping to small gifts that feel like Jeju, first decide what you want to buy and which area you will be staying in. Duty-free purchases for departure from Jeju work differently from purchases at regular shops.
Travel planning at a glance
Jeju offers 19 selected shopping places: five duty-free shops, four outlet or brand-shopping venues, five traditional markets, and five souvenir shops. Distinguish JDC and JTO designated duty-free shops for departures to other parts of Korea from Lotte and Shilla downtown stores for international departures, and plan around five-day market dates. Without a rental car, it is more practical to shop near your accommodation and arrange return transport first.
Choose among four kinds of shopping based on what you want to buy
Duty-free cosmetics and perfume, branded clothing, market foods and Jeju souvenirs have different purchase locations and conditions. The 19 places below are a selected list, not a live comparison of stock or prices. VAT refunds at regular shops are separate from duty-free shopping, and you should not assume every shop offers them.

Check departure eligibility, limits and pickup before booking duty-free goods
JDC and JTO designated duty-free shops serve Korean and international travelers departing Jeju by plane or ferry for another region of Korea. You must show your own ID and boarding pass and complete identity verification. Do not confuse these with the booking and purchase terms at Lotte and Shilla downtown stores for international departures.
Category
Travel plan
Where you collect your goods
JDC airport and port stores
Jeju → departure for another region of Korea
Pay and collect at the store on your departure day, then board. The airport store is located after security.
JTO Jungmun and Seongsan stores
Jeju → departure for another region of Korea
Buy in town and collect in person on your departure day at a designated counter at Jeju Airport or Jeju Port Piers 2 or 7.
Lotte and Shilla downtown Jeju stores
Check international departure eligibility
Collect at a designated counter on your flight date. Passport and flight details on the order must match.
JDC and JTO combine purchase records under a limit of six purchases per year and up to US$800 in general goods per purchase. Alcohol has a separate combined limit of 2 L and US$400; JDC separately lists one carton of cigarettes. These are limits for purchases at Jeju designated duty-free shops and should not be combined with the personal duty-free allowance for travelers returning from overseas. Confirm age restrictions for alcohol and tobacco and product-specific terms with the operator before buying.
JTO lists its alcohol limit as effective from 2025-07-02. Its online purchase-limit lookup uses a Korean resident registration number or foreign resident registration number and, according to its notice, cannot be completed using a foreign visitor’s passport number. Ask separately about in-person shopping and online booking if you are a short-term visitor with only a passport.
JTO Seongsan is inside Seongsanpo Port Passenger Terminal. A round-trip ticket to Udo is not proof of departure from Jeju to another region of Korea. Do not plan around a duty-free purchase until your departure service and purchase and pickup deadlines are confirmed.
Choose a duty-free shop based on domestic departure or an overseas flight
If you are leaving for another region of Korea, compare JDC and Jeju Tourism Organization designated duty-free shops. If you have an international departure, check the terms at general downtown duty-free shops. Even on Jeju, duty-free shops differ in eligibility and how goods are collected.

Shop near your accommodation and plan how to get back with your purchases
Rather than linking shopping stops across the whole island in one day, choose places in the same area as your accommodation and sightseeing. The routes below are suggestions based on addresses, not bus timetables or booked car itineraries. Check travel time, service frequency and taxi fares for your departure point and travel date.
Area
Places to combine
Getting around without a rental car
Jeju City old town
Dongmun Market → choose Chilseong-ro or Jungang Underground Shopping Center → optionally add a Tapdong concept store
Check actual entrances and walking routes on a map. For heavy bags, first identify the bus stop for your accommodation or a taxi pickup point.
Jeju City, New Jeju
HAN Collection → optionally add Moiso
Check the actual route and crossings between the two places. Add Lotte or Shilla downtown duty-free shops only if you qualify for an international departure.
Seogwipo downtown and Jungmun
Choose Maeil Olle Market or JTO Jungmun to match your accommodation area
Downtown Seogwipo and Jungmun are separate trips. After late shopping, plan your return ride separately from the duty-free pickup process on your departure day.
Southwest Jeju
Choose OSULLOC or Jeju Premium Center
Travel between the venues is separate. Check bus access and return service first, or confirm taxi or charter pickup and waiting terms.
West or east coast
Hallim or Sehwa Five-Day Market / Aewol souvenir shop
Check market dates and current opening before adding a stop to your coastal itinerary. Before shopping, identify the return bus stop and last service or arrange a taxi pickup.
For a rental car, check each venue’s parking entrance, fees and operating status. For a taxi, confirm the pickup point, number of bags and whether you can arrange a return ride. If going straight to the airport, allow separate time for car return, shuttle, baggage check-in, security and duty-free pickup. Do not leave fresh food in a car for a long time; ask the seller about storage or chilled packaging.
Can domestic travelers and international visitors shop duty-free on Jeju?
Korean and international travelers departing Jeju by plane or ferry for another region of Korea can use the JDC and JTO designated duty-free shops. You need your own ID and boarding pass. The Lotte and Shilla downtown Jeju stores are general duty-free shops for international departures; a domestic trip from Jeju alone does not qualify.
Can I use duty-free purchases during my Jeju trip?
At JDC airport and port stores, pay for and collect your purchases on the day you depart, before boarding. Purchases from JTO stores in Jungmun or Seongsan are collected at designated counters at Jeju Airport or Jeju Port on your departure day. Check the designated pickup conditions for downtown Lotte and Shilla stores, which serve international departures.
What is the purchase limit at Jeju’s designated duty-free shops?
JDC and JTO state a combined limit of six purchases per year and US$800 in general goods per purchase. Alcohol has a separate limit of 2 L and US$400 in total; JDC also lists one carton of cigarettes as a separate allowance. Confirm product-specific terms and age limits for alcohol and tobacco with the operator. These are different from the duty-free allowance for travelers returning from an overseas trip.
Can international visitors book with only a passport number through JTO online?
JTO says its online purchase-limit lookup does not accept a foreign visitor’s passport number; it requires a Korean resident registration number or foreign resident registration number. If you are a short-term visitor with only a passport, ask whether online booking is available and how to buy in person and collect your goods when departing Jeju. This does not mean international visitors cannot shop in person.
Are there outlet stores on Jeju?
Shinsegae Simon Jeju Premium Center is in Shinhwa World. It is an outlet-style branded shopping venue; the Korean name shown by the operator is “제주 프리미엄 전문점.” HAN Collection, Chilseong-ro and Jungang Underground Shopping Center offer different kinds of fashion shopping, and these venues should not all be assumed to be duty-free or permanently discounted.
Are five-day markets open every day?
Jeju Traditional Five-Day Market is listed for the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd and 27th of each month; Hallim Traditional Five-Day Market for the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th. Sehwa Haenyeo Traditional Five-Day Market’s official basic listing gives the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th and 25th; operation on the 30th was not confirmed. Check individual vendors and same-day changes separately.
How can I plan Jeju shopping without a rental car?
In Jeju City’s old downtown, choose among Dongmun Market, Chilseong-ro and Jungang Underground Shopping Center; in New Jeju, choose between HAN Collection and Moiso, and keep each outing within one area. If you are staying in Seogwipo, plan Maeil Olle Market separately. For shopping in the southwest, first check bus access and return service or book a taxi, then decide on the exact pickup point and how you will travel back with your bags.
Can I take tangerines, seafood or food gifts overseas?
Rules for travel within Korea differ from rules for bringing goods into another country. Check the destination country’s official guidance on import and quarantine requirements for agricultural and seafood products, meat and processed foods. A seller’s offer to ship does not mean a product is permitted across the border; also check storage, cabin baggage and packaging requirements.
Information dates and research scope
