Islands off Jeju · Islands
Udo is an island reached by ferry from eastern Jeju, with coastal villages, contrasting beaches and Udobong to explore. Your route depends on whether you walk, cycle or use other permitted transport. Check ferries and on-island transport conditions first, then decide how much to see in half a day or a full day.
Travel planning at a glance
Check ferry routes to Udo from Seongsan and Jongdal ports, and plan your outbound ferry together with the last return sailing. Restrictions on outside vehicles have been extended for 2026-08-01–2029-07-31, so check rental-car exceptions separately. Choose which of Seobinbaeksa, Hagosudong and Udobong to visit, and check conditions for transport on the island.

Operating and access information is based on the official sources below. Recommended routes and visit durations are editorial suggestions. Check each place's description to see whether waiting, meals and similar time are included, and allow separate time for travel between places.

The white grains on the rhodolith beach known as Seobinbaeksa are formed from hardened red algae, not coral fragments. This is a protected beach: do not take grains as souvenirs or cross the boundaries of fields and the beach. Comparing sandy Hagosudong with Geommeolle's dark coastal terrain reveals differences in coastal materials and colors even on the same island.
Udobong adds elevation to a beach walk and offers a view over the island. Rather than trying to cover several coastal spots and Udobong in a short time, combine 1–2 beaches that interest you with a viewpoint or meal. The clear sea colors seen in photos may look different on your visit date because of clouds, tides and wind.

An option involving additional ridge walking. Allow for transport time on the island and wind, and distinguish it from a beach-focused itinerary.

Seongsan and Jongdal ports have different departure locations and routes. Check not only timetables but also that day's service, return sailing and arrival dock so you can plan onward travel on the island. Read ticket conditions for what is included in the passenger fare, provincial park admission and other charges; do not mistake admission alone for the full return-trip cost.
Half a day to a full day is an editorial planning reference, not a fixed duration covering ferry queues, ticketing and waits for transport on the island. Work backward from boarding preparations for your return ferry to divide your time after arrival. Strong winds can cancel sailings even without rain on Jeju's main island, so prepare an alternative itinerary.

Official tourism guidance states that restrictions on outside vehicles have been extended from 2026-08 to 2029-07. Exceptions subject to conditions include hydrogen and electric rental cars classified as Class 1 low-emission vehicles, use by people needing mobility support, and guests staying overnight on Udo. Do not assume your booked vehicle qualifies; check documentation and the actual vehicle conditions before visiting.
Rental transport with similar names may have different licence, insurance and operating requirements depending on vehicle type, speed and power source. If carrying children or unfamiliar with driving, read the conditions first and compare walking, buses and other alternatives. Respect residents' vehicles and pedestrians on narrow village roads.

Udo's reference address is not the ferry boarding point on Jeju's main island. Enter your booked departure port in your navigation app and confirm the operator's boarding location. If adding Udo to a Seongsan-area trip, also allow time in your main-island itinerary for port parking, ticketing and retrieving your car after returning.
When stopping for lunch or at a cafe on Udo, leave enough time to reach your return dock. Avoid rushing from the opposite side of the island to catch the last ferry. If planning Seongsan Ilchulbong and Udo on the same day, adjust how much you see on Jeju's main island to the ferry schedule and remaining stamina rather than trying to cover both in full.
