The Jejumok Gwana area served as Jeju's administrative center from the Tamna kingdom through the Joseon period. Looking at Gwandeokjeong Pavilion and the arrangement of government buildings helps explain how administrative and military spaces fitted into the city. Distinguish preserved remains from reconstructed sections rather than assuming every building survives unchanged from the same period.
The official introduction explains that repeated excavations identified traces of buildings including Honghwagak, Yeonhuigak, Uyeondang, Gyullimdang and Yeongjuhyeopdang. Connect each building's name with its purpose to understand the complex rather than simply crossing its courtyards. Check which areas are open that day, including the Jejumok history exhibition and displays related to Tamna Sullyeokdo.

The operator lists daytime opening hours as 09:00–18:00, with individual admission at ₩1,500 for adults, ₩800 for teenagers and ₩400 for children. Eligibility for reductions and free admission during events may differ, so check the required proof and notices. As an editorial planning guide, allow 45–90 minutes, with extra time for a guided tour or a closer look at the exhibitions.
The announced 2026 evening opening period is 1 May–31 October, 18:00–21:00, excluding Mondays and Tuesdays, with free admission. This does not mean the site opens every evening throughout the year. Performances and national heritage events have separate schedules. Check operating notices and weather-related cancellations for your travel date before choosing a daytime architecture visit or an evening visit to see the lighting.
If you are unfamiliar with traditional government buildings, join a cultural heritage guided tour to learn about their functions and the work of Jeju's magistrate. The official tourism introduction lists telephone reservations and on-site registration. Guide availability, lunch breaks and tour times may change, so check ahead. When joining a group tour, keep paths clear and be considerate of other visitors listening to the guide.
Much of the route between courtyards and buildings is outdoors, so this is not a fully sheltered rainy-day attraction. With children, compare the uses of Gwandeokjeong and one or two government buildings rather than trying to memorise every name. Take care on thresholds and steps, and do not climb on exhibits or architectural elements.

When arriving by car, check both Jejumok Gwana's dedicated car park and the public car park west of Gwandeokjeong Pavilion. An operator notice from August 2026 announced shorter hours at the dedicated car park on certain event days and directed visitors to nearby public parking. For your travel date, check car park hours, event restrictions and nearby parking conditions, and have an alternative if the car park is full.
For a car-free walk through the old town, use the Gwandeokjeong area as a starting point to link Jejumok Gwana with Yongyeon and Yongduam. If adding both coastal sights, allow for walking time separately from the heritage site's closing time. For a day focused on history and culture, an editorial itinerary suggestion is to add Samseonghyeol or the Folklore and Natural History Museum to explore Jeju's myths and everyday culture.
