Light and music in a former communications bunker

Bunker des Lumières uses a former communications facility designed to block outside light and noise for media art. Unlike static paintings hung on walls, images move across walls, pillars and floors alongside music. Compare viewing from one place with slowly moving among several positions.

Past works featuring artists such as Cézanne and Kandinsky in promotional material are not necessarily still showing. Check the operator’s current exhibition and notices for names and dates. Changeovers and closures may affect available visit dates, so do not choose tickets from old reviews or archive photos alone.

Images throughout the space

Images move together across walls, pillars and floors. View different directions from positions that leave room for others to pass.

Reusing a space for culture

Understanding its conversion from a former government communications facility helps explain the building’s form.

Checking admission fees, sessions and visiting hours

Official standard fees for 2026 are KRW 19,000 for adults, KRW 14,000 for youths and KRW 11,000 for children. Listed birth-year bands are 2008–2013 for youths, 2014–2022 for children and free admission for infants born in 2023–2026. Rates use birth year rather than birthday. Jeju-resident and special rates require proof on site.

The operator lists visiting hours of 10:00–18:00, last admission at 17:30 and a separate session timetable. Check your ticket’s session and change and cancellation conditions. Entering shortly before closing does not ensure enough viewing time. Follow date-specific notices for exhibition changeovers and events too.

Children, pets and audiovisual effects

The operator notes that darkness and moving images may cause dizziness for some visitors. Stay with children so they do not run, and explain the viewing conditions first if strong sound or images may be uncomfortable. Toddler wagons are not permitted; tripods and selfie sticks should be folded when carried while moving.

The operator permits pets meeting conditions such as being healthy, registered, vaccinated and at least 3 months old, excluding dangerous dogs. Do not assume every pet may enter without conditions. Water, coffee and even infant snacks are not permitted in the exhibition space, so plan meals and breaks before or after viewing.

Reaching the Seongsan entrance and choosing a coastal stop afterward

Use both address and facility name to find Bunker des Lumières at 성산읍 서성일로1168번길 89-17. Distinguish this venue from ARTE MUSEUM JEJU and Théâtre des Lumières in Seoul rather than mixing their guidance or photos. Also check that your booked ticket applies to Jeju’s Bunker des Lumières.

If combining Seongsan Ilchulbong or Seopjikoji, coordinate the indoor session and outdoor weather first. Even after choosing an indoor exhibition for rain, check coastal winds and waves separately. Choose one viewpoint or short walk according to time remaining rather than including every nearby stop.
