Geumneung Beach

Geumneung Beach in Hallim adjoins Hyeopjae and combines views of Biyangdo with broad stretches of exposed sand. The coast changes greatly as the tide recedes, making it suitable for sand play with children or waiting for the western sunset. Follow safety guidance even in shallow water.

Travel planning at a glance

Geumneung Beach in Hallim offers views of Biyangdo and the sandy shore. Broad stretches of sand emerge at low tide, and our planning estimate allows 1–2 hours for a walk. Do not judge children's water activities by depth alone; check designated swimming areas, the incoming tide and waves.

Biyangdo views and low-tide scenery at Geumneung Beach

Geumneung adjoins Hyeopjae, with broad stretches of sand and pools left behind by the receding tide to explore visually. Look along the boundary between sand and black rocks with Biyangdo ahead. As the tide changes, places where you took photographs may become submerged, so you cannot count on returning along exactly the same route.

Think of Geumneung's atmosphere as changing with the season and time of day rather than assuming it is always quiet. Visitors may gather for family water activities in summer or sunset views in the evening. Our suggestion is to compare its scenery with Hyeopjae, then spend longer at one beach.

Exposed sand at low tide

Observe the sand and water puddles that appear when the sea water recedes.

Biyangdo Island and sunset

Compare the afternoon and sunset scenery against the island's outline.

Plan sand play and sunset around the tides at Geumneung

To see the low-tide scenery, check the tides for your visit, including when the tide starts coming in. Enjoy observation and photography on sandy areas with an easy return route rather than walking out to distant rocks just because the water has receded. We suggest 1–2 hours for a beach walk; water activities, showers and meals will extend your stay.

Sunset gives Biyangdo and the sea's outline different colors. Our suggested itinerary starts with a sandy-shore walk in the late afternoon, then stays in one place around sunset. If you remain after dark, check your return transport and lighting along the route. Do not plan to enter the water at night, even if it was shallow during the day.

What to check before water activities with children at Geumneung

Official information describes enjoying low-tide scenery with children, but natural pools should not be treated as safe swimming pools. Guardians should stay close to children and check designated swimming areas and lifeguard coverage. We also suggest protective footwear because small shell fragments or stones may lie underfoot.

Sand play lets you enjoy the beach without swimming. If waves are high or it is outside the swimming season, plan to view Biyangdo from the sand instead of entering the water. For pets, check restrictions on bathing in designated swimming areas and on-site rules for bringing animals, and follow leash and waste-cleanup requirements.

Compare Geumneung and Hyeopjae, then add Hallim Park

Parking areas connect to Geumneung Beach, so check the route for carrying your belongings first. Easy parking cannot be guaranteed on every visit; in summer, allow time for queues and the walk to the beach. Bus users should decide whether to start and return from Geumneung or Hyeopjae to avoid confusing the stops.

Our suggested route can include a walk toward Hyeopjae Beach and, when sunlight is strong, divide the day with a visit to Hallim Park. The park charges admission and involves extensive walking, so visit it on another day if you are tired after beach activities. Brief photography stops at both beaches require a different amount of time from a long family visit for water activities.
