Hyeopjae Beach

Hyeopjae Beach in Hallim, western Jeju, offers views of Biyangdo beyond its bright sandy shore. Plan a walk to enjoy the sea colors and island scenery, sand play with children, or a western itinerary including Hallim Park. Entering the water is subject to seasonal safety management and on-site restrictions.

Travel planning at a glance

Hyeopjae Beach in Hallim is known for its Biyangdo views and bright sandy shore. Our suggested itinerary allows 1–2 hours for a walk and photography. Biyangdo views and sea colors at Hyeopjae Beach

Biyangdo offshore and bright sand containing shell fragments define Hyeopjae's scenery. Sea colors vary with sunlight, tides and waves, so enjoy the sea as it looks on the day rather than expecting it always to match photographs. Taking in the island's outline and sandy shore together reveals the character of the Hallim coast.

Hyeopjae lies on the same stretch of coast as Geumneung Beach. Our suggested route follows nearby designated walking sections to see Biyangdo from different angles, rather than stopping for photographs at just one point. The boundary between rock and sand offers changing scenery, but do not venture down into channels where seawater flows in.

Allow different amounts of time for walks and water activities at Hyeopjae Beach

Our planning estimate is 1–2 hours for a walk and photography. Add time for changing, showering and meals if you also plan to swim. Rentals such as parasols and raised platforms cost extra. Do not assume the same services operate outside the swimming season; check visitor information for your date and the on-site prices.

For sunset, allow time for parking and walking rather than planning only when to reach the sea. Daytime sea colors and Biyangdo's outline at dusk offer different views. Past dates with extended evening beach operations do not mean night swimming is permitted throughout the year, so focus evening plans on walking.

Check swimming areas when visiting with children or pets

Waves and currents can change even on a sandy beach that appears shallow. Children should use designated swimming areas with a guardian, and you should check whether lifeguards are on duty. Bring protective footwear for sections with shells and stones. Check where your child is before stepping away briefly to take photographs on the wide beach.

Official tourism guidance restricts pets from bathing in designated swimming areas during the swimming season. Being able to bring a pet to the beach does not mean you can swim together. Follow leash, waste-cleanup and on-site rules, and choose another walking section if bringing your pet causes complaints or is restricted.

Plan a day around Hyeopjae, Geumneung and Hallim Park

Check Hyeopjae Beach's public parking and the actual beach entrance on a map. If you are not staying in the Hallim area, allow separately for the return bus or drive. Parking and restaurant queues can affect your plans in summer or around sunset, so do not plan the whole day using only your time on the beach.

Geumneung Beach offers another view of the adjoining coast, while Hallim Park is a paid option for plants, caves and folk-culture spaces. Our suggested itinerary focuses on one beach rather than a long stay at both. Treat Biyangdo as a separate island outing that requires time for the outward and return sailings.
