Look up into the forest and down at its floor
We suggest an observation walk, looking at the straight trunks of Japanese cedars and the leaves of surrounding trees. Do not leave the designated walking paths or break off plants.

Saryeoni Forest Trail links the Gyorae and Pyoseon directions in Jeju's uplands. Choose a short walk among tall Japanese cedars or a longer forest walk, but decide your entrance and turnaround point first. Do not include Mulchat Oreum within the forest in a standard visit.
Travel planning at a glance
For a short Saryeoni walk, plan an out-and-back route from parking near the Bulgeun Oreum entrance on Namjo-ro. You do not need to walk the full forest trail of about 10 km, and must not enter Mulchat Oreum. Check parking conditions at the Bijarim-ro entrance and return transport after any one-way walk separately.

Look beyond the tall Japanese cedars to the surrounding broadleaf trees and forest floor. Konara oaks, looseflower hornbeams, Japanese snowbells and other trees create changing light and leaf shapes even within the same section. Leave room for other walkers when taking photographs.
The Bulgeun Oreum entrance on Namjo-ro combines red volcanic-scoria paths with Japanese cedar groves. Unlike open coastal viewpoints, it suits slow walks among trees. Although the trail takes its name from Saryeoni Oreum, do not treat a forest-trail visit and a climb to an oreum summit as the same itinerary.

A short Jeju forest walk can be rewarding if you choose a turnaround point suited to your remaining time and companions' energy rather than completing the entire trail.

The forest trail's full length is different from the distance you actually walk. The suggested 1–3 hours is this guide's editorial estimate for a short visit, not a guaranteed time for the entire trail. On an out-and-back walk, allow as much time to return as you spent walking in, plus breaks and the approach to parking.
VisitJeju describes an out-and-back walk from the Bulgeun Oreum entrance on Namjo-ro to near the Mulchat Oreum entrance. Even when reaching that entrance, exclude entry into the oreum itself. Official notices for the day and on-site instructions take priority for open sections and temporary restrictions.

VisitJeju recommends the Bulgeun Oreum entrance on Namjo-ro for older or less mobile visitors and stroller users because parts of Jeolmul Joritdae-gil have uneven surfaces and elevation changes. This does not mean the whole forest trail is passable with a stroller. Check boardwalks and surfaces at your entrance and choose a section you can comfortably return from.
Fog and rain change the forest's atmosphere, but wet surfaces also require attention to slipping and visibility. Bring shoes with good grip and suitable outerwear, and shorten your walk in strong winds or heavy rain. Official guidance prohibits food but allows water, so plan meals separately from your forest visit.

For a short walk by car, find Saryeoni Forest Trail's Bulgeun Oreum entrance on Namjo-ro on the map. Official information says there is no separate parking at the Bijarim-ro entrance, so do not park along the road without authorization. The representative location below refers to the forest trail as a whole, not necessarily the parking for your chosen entrance.
For a one-way public-transport itinerary between the entrances, check the stop at your finishing point and the return route first. Search separately for Saryeoni Forest Trail's Bulgeun Oreum entrance and Bulgeun Oreum Natural Recreation Forest. After a long walk, consider a contrasting stop such as Jeju Stone Park's exhibitions rather than another long forest walk.

Mulchat Oreum is closed to general visitors. Even if you reach its entrance during a forest walk, turn back rather than entering. Temporary opening events require separate checks of official notices and reservation conditions.
Official tourism guidance recommends the Bulgeun Oreum entrance on Namjo-ro because of trail surfaces and changes in elevation. This does not guarantee stroller access throughout; check surfaces at the entrance and choose a short out-and-back section.
