Yongduam Rock is a coastal landmark named for the dragon's head shape of its volcanic rock, worn by waves and wind. Official visitor information says the shape is relatively clear from the western viewpoint. Walk along the viewing path to compare different angles rather than looking at the rock only from the front.
A local legend tells of a dragon from nearby Yongyeon that turned to stone while trying to rise into the sky. This story is distinct from the geological explanation of the rock's formation. The free cultural interpretation service covers the rock's formation and the stories behind local names. Ask the tourist information center about phone reservations and on-site registration.

As an editorial planning estimate, allow 30–45 minutes at Yongduam Rock itself to enjoy the views and take photos without rushing. Add time for interpretation services or a walk to Yongyeon Valley. Even if you are fitting in a visit before a flight, allow separate time for travel to the airport and returning your rental car.
A suggested walk starts with sea views from the Yongduam Rock viewing path and continues toward Yongyeon Suspension Bridge. The volcanic coast and valley waters offer varied scenery for your photos. Walking the whole of Olle Trail Route 17 covers a different distance from a short visit to these two sights.

High waves can make the rocks and spray look dramatic, but do not go down onto the coastal rocks. Stay on the viewing path and within safety barriers. On wet steps, watch your footing before taking photos. In strong winds or heavy rain, our editorial recommendation is to skip even a short walk and choose an indoor activity.
If visiting with children or someone who needs more time to walk, choose your viewpoints first and minimize stairs. There is little shelter from the wind on the open coast. Bring a light outer layer and comfortable walking shoes, and leave room for others to pass when you pause at a viewpoint.

Set the Yongduam Rock viewing area as your destination. If taking a bus, also check the walk from your stop to the viewing path. Being near the airport does not mean it is convenient to walk from the terminal. Choose your transport with airport access routes and your luggage in mind.
If driving, continue along the Yongdam–Dodu coastal road to combine the visit with Dodubong Peak or Iho Tewoo Beach. On foot, Yongyeon Valley and the old town make a natural continuation. Rather than fitting every north-coast sight into one day, choose between Yongyeon's valley scenery and Dodubong's elevated views.
