Cheonjeyeon’s waterfalls and Jungmun forest views from Seonimgyo Bridge

Cheonjeyeon combines a series of waterfalls and a valley crossed by the arched Seonimgyo Bridge. Its official introduction also explains the name through a legend of heavenly maidens, offering both landforms and stories to explore. Plan a visit that includes walking between forest and bridge, rather than simply taking a waterfall photo and leaving.

Water flow varies with rainfall, season and on-site conditions, so every waterfall is not guaranteed to flow as shown in a particular photograph. Check the current entrance guidance and choose open sections. The pools and waterfalls are not places to enter without permission to wash or swim. Observe them from designated viewpoints and respect access boundaries.

Waterfall sections

Check entrance guidance for open sections and steps on the outward and return route.

Seonimgyo Bridge

Observe the bridge above the valley and its setting in Jungmun’s forest.

Combining Jungmun’s culture and nature

Greenhouse gardens or coastal geology can be added with a separate journey.

Cheonjeyeon Falls admission, visiting hours and section choices

The Seogwipo operator lists individual admission at KRW 2,500 for adults and KRW 1,350 for teenagers and children. Check the fee table for age categories, group rates and concessions. Listed visiting hours are 09:00–17:50, with last admission at 17:10, but sunset and weather may change them. Recheck times for your actual visit date.

Seeing all the waterfalls and Seonimgyo Bridge involves steps on both the outward and return route, plus walks between sections. This guide suggests 1.5–2 hours, but if arriving late, focus on one or two sections. First check the distances and return route on the map. Do not treat the time to reach a single waterfall as the total visit time.

Preparing for Cheonjeyeon’s steps, children and wet weather

With parents or children, this guide recommends choosing a manageable visiting area before aiming to photograph every waterfall. Allow for both climbing and descending steps, with rests along the way. Do not assume pushchairs can reach every viewpoint. If someone needs mobility assistance, ask at the entrance which routes are possible.

Rain and spray can leave steps and surfaces wet and slippery. Check weather restrictions and access first, rather than visiting in heavy rain in the hope of stronger falls. When taking photos on Seonimgyo Bridge or at viewpoints, leave room for others to pass. Do not enter undesignated areas below in the valley or go beyond railings.

Planning Cheonjeyeon, Yeomiji and Jungmun’s coast

The destination is Cheonjeyeon Falls in Jungmun at 서귀포시 천제연로 132. Its name resembles Cheonjiyeon Falls on Namseongjung-ro, so check map results together with the address. For public transport, check Jungmun-area bus stops, the walk to the entrance and your return service. Choose your visiting area with bus arrival times and ticket-office closing time in mind.

Yeomiji Botanical Garden offers greenhouse and garden plants to compare with the waterfall forest; Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff offers coastal geology. Each needs its own admission fee, visit time and separate journey. This guide suggests centering a Jungmun day trip on Cheonjeyeon’s steps and waterfalls, then adding either a garden or the coast if your group has energy left.
