Visitor guide →East · Culture and history
Jocheon Manse Hill is a historical site with memorial towers commemorating Jocheon's resistance to Japanese rule, viewed along public outdoor routes. Plan it alongside, but separately from, the indoor exhibits at Jeju Hangil Memorial Hall.
Travel planning at a glance
At Jocheon Manse Hill, explore the meaning of the Jocheon independence demonstrations and the memorial towers. Allow 30–45 minutes for public outdoor viewing, separate from the resistance memorial hall's indoor operations. Walking the full Olle Routes 18 and 19 requires separate distance and return planning.

Operating and access information is based on the official sources below. Recommended routes and visit durations are editorial suggestions. Check each place's description to see whether waiting, meals and similar time are included, and allow separate time for travel between places.

Jocheon Manse Hill remembers the Jocheon independence demonstrations and the people who worked for independence. Read the descriptions of the memorial tower for patriotic martyrs and the March First (3·1) Independence Movement Monument.
The memorial tower is described as having a form reminiscent of Jeju's jeongnang gate bars. Observe its architecture, the symbols of Jeju culture and its commemorative meaning together.
The suggested 30–45 minutes is for a short visit to the public outdoor memorial grounds. Check admission and closure days separately for the nearby resistance memorial hall's indoor exhibits.
The area is introduced as the end of Olle Route 18 and the start of Route 19. A short historical visit takes a different amount of time from a long Olle walk, so make separate plans for a full-route walking day.
With children, discuss why towers are built to remember people and events. Do not use the memorial grounds as a play area; walk quietly while observing the monuments.
Do not climb or damage monuments, and respect the spaces and routes used for ceremonies and events. Shorten your visit in heavy rain or strong wind, and return along public paths.
The representative lot address in the tourism association's historic-site guide is 조천읍 조천리 1133-2. This does not necessarily identify the actual entrance or parking lot, so check maps and on-site guidance. When also visiting the resistance memorial hall, plan the actual viewing routes separately.
Hamdeok Beach is an option for a coastal break after the historical visit. Continuing east to Jeju Haenyeo Museum offers another perspective on the lives of Jeju's coastal communities.
