Hamdeok Beach

Hamdeok is a northeastern beach framed by bright sand, sea colors and neighboring Seoubong. Start with a level coastal walk, then climb Seoubong if you want to walk further and see the same sea from a higher viewpoint.

Travel planning at a glance

Hamdeok’s highlights include the sandy beach, coastal path and Seoubong views. The suggested 1–2 hours is an editorial walking estimate, separate from the swimming season. Hamdog Beach is described as a designated dog swimming area during the 2026 beach season, so check current water access, safety supervision and on-site conditions separately.

Hamdeok’s sea colors and the scenery around Seoubong

Hamdeok Beach combines bright sand, clear sea colors and Seoubong immediately beside it. Official information also describes views from the western bridge, coastal path and lawn park. Compare the water up close from the sand with the wider outline of the beach from the lawn and hill as you walk.

The beach is also called Hamdeok Seoubong Beach because of the neighboring hill. Spring canola flowers and seasonal greenery vary with weather and growth. Official information describes views toward Hallasan and nearby volcanic hills on clear days. Colors on your visit depend on the sky, waves and tides, so do not expect a particular emerald shade at all times.

Continuing to Seoubong

A short ascent adds a view of the full outline of Hamdeok’s coast.

Allowing time for a beach walk and Seoubong

Our editorial estimate is 1–2 hours for a beach walk and rest. Add separate ascent and descent time for Seoubong, distinguishing this from a light visit to the beach alone. Meals and cafés are not automatically included in walking time; also allow for weekend parking, photo queues and children’s breaks.

For a family walk, start with the level sand and lawn park, then choose a short section up Seoubong for the views. Enjoy the water colors by day and use the lit coastal path later. Parts of Seoubong’s surrounding trail are unlit, so do not treat a night walk there as equivalent to viewing the illuminated beach.

Checking family swimming and Hamdog Beach conditions

Even if official information describes shallow water, it does not guarantee safe swimming. Before entering, check the official beach season, lifeguards, swimming areas and wave-related restrictions that day. In autumn and winter, do not plan to enter the sea based only on summer swimming photos; our suggestion is to focus on the sand and coastal walks.

Official visitor information describes Hamdog Beach as a designated area in front of the Seoubong entrance where visitors can enter the water with dogs during the 2026 beach season. This does not mean unrestricted water access across the whole beach year-round. Follow leash, waste cleanup, designated-area and on-site operating rules, and first check the current operating period and availability.

Visiting Hamdeok along the Jocheon and Gujwa coast

Choose where to start your Hamdeok Beach walk and check the route to Seoubong’s entrance on a map. If taking a bus, select from Hamdeok’s several stops according to your preferred beach access point. A seaside café as your destination may lead to a different parking or walking route, so distinguish it from the place where you want to view the beach.

Adding Seoubong lets you compare the same beach from low and high viewpoints. Driving east to Gimnyeong Beach offers a comparison of volcanic rocks and sand along the two beaches. Jeju Olle Route 19 is a full walking itinerary, distinct from a short Hamdeok stroll; arrange return transport from its endpoint first if completing the route.
