Hallasan views from Eorimok's Sajebi Dongsan and Manse Dongsan

Crossing the valley near Eorimok Plaza and climbing through forest brings you to Sajebi Dongsan. The initial ascent takes considerable effort, so do not assume Eorimok is simply an easy route. After leaving the forest, views open from Manse Dongsan across high-altitude grassland toward Witse Oreum.

At Witse Oreum, the route meets the trail from Yeongsil and can continue along the south-wall circuit trail. Views of the plain and crater wall toward the south wall depend on weather and open sections. Distinguish distances to Witse Oreum from those to Nambyeok Junction on the signs to plan your return time and descent route accurately.

Initial forest ascent

Slow down and conserve energy between Eorimok Valley and Sajebi Dongsan.

Manse Dongsan views

The upper section beyond the forest is directly exposed to wind and fog. Clear visibility and safe weather are needed to enjoy the views.

Time for Eorimok's Witse Oreum return hike and an optional south-wall extension

Official route guidance gives about 2 hours one way to Witse Oreum and about 3 hours one way to Nambyeok Junction. Your time may differ with breaks, photographs and snow-covered paths. Do not mistake 4.7 km for the full return distance; plan the day around 9.4 km for a Witse Oreum return hike.

Standard Eorimok hikes are not covered by summit reservations. The entrance deadline, the cutoff at Witse Oreum for continuing toward the south wall and descent deadlines apply separately, so avoid deciding on a south-wall extension impulsively on site. If arriving late, choose an earlier turnaround point or another plan.

Prepare for Eorimok's snow-covered trails and high-altitude weather

Take short steps on the forest's rocky slopes, and bring enough water, snacks and an outer layer even though this is not a summit route. Sajebi Spring may not supply water during dry periods, so do not rely on it alone. Make sure younger companions understand that they must descend as far as they climb.

Fog and strong winds at Witse Oreum and on the south-wall circuit trail can affect orientation and body temperature. Bring suitable equipment for snow or ice and follow on-site restrictions. If you only want to see winter snow, distinguish a long hike from a stay near the plaza; watch vehicle and pedestrian routes even around the car park.

Getting from the Eorimok Entrance bus stop to the visitor information center

Find Eorimok Plaza or Eorimok Visitor Information Center on the map. The roadside Eorimok Entrance bus stop has an additional approach to the hiking start. Do not count arrival at the stop as the start of the climb; check vehicle access, road restrictions and the actual parking location as well.

Descending from Witse Oreum toward Yeongsil or Donnaeko brings you to a different area. This offers varied scenery but requires separate plans for the last public-transport service and vehicle retrieval. Check that connecting sections are open that day before choosing a return hike or a through-hike.
