Japanese cedars and Gyorae’s landforms at Samdasu Forest

Samdasu Forest is a walking trail created by improving a forest road used by residents. Japanese cedars planted on former horse-grazing and hunting land matured into woodland. It opened under its forest-trail name in 2010. Alternate between observing the straight trunks and plants on the forest floor.

Gyorae Samdasu Village is managed as a representative geopark site. Official information describes rare-plant communities and habitat shared by various species around the trail. This is not the same program as visiting bottled-water production facilities. Keep forest-walk plans separate from factory-tour inquiries.

Samdasu Forest route signs and planning your return time

On a first visit, check route signs and open sections and choose a walk within this guide’s suggested 1–2 hours. The forest’s representative address may differ from the actual starting point. Do not follow every junction deeper into the forest without identifying your intended route.

Include photo stops and the return walk in your walking time. Unlike some coastal promenades, forest surfaces may have rocks, roots and moisture. Wear suitable walking shoes. In heavy rain or poor weather, check on-site restrictions and return transport, and adjust your visit.

Observing forest trees and leaves with children

With children, compare straight Japanese cedar trunks with small plants below. Start with a short forest walk and a planned turnaround point rather than attempting a long route immediately. Do not take leaves or branches while learning plant names.

Parents or companions needing mobility assistance should first check actual surfaces and changes in level. Descriptions of an improved forest road do not guarantee every section is flat. If adding another hike on the same day, shorten forest walking and allow rest.

Combining Gyorae forest trails with Jeju Stone Park and Saryeoni

The representative address is 조천읍 교래리 산 70-1 일대. Do not choose a vehicle-access route from the mountain-land address alone. Check Samdasu Forest’s actual trailhead and on-site parking guidance on the map. If taking a bus in Gyorae-ri, calculate the walk between the stop and starting point separately.

Jeju Stone Park adds exhibitions about Gyorae’s geology and stone. Saryeoni Forest Trail offers a different woodland setting. Rather than walking long routes at both forests, make one visit shorter to leave time for upland travel and your return journey.
