Gimnyeong Beach formed as sand accumulated on broad lava rock, creating a contrast between bright sand and black volcanic stone. It is also known as Seongsegi. Looking at the distant wind turbines and surrounding village as well as the sea colors gives a sense of everyday life on Jeju’s northeastern coast.
Official information lists parking, toilets, changing rooms, showers and a campground. Their presence does not mean identical opening hours in every season, so check the services you intend to use for your visit date. Nearby Yongcheon and Dangcheomul caves are not part of a route open to general visitors; descriptions of caves near the beach are not invitations to enter them.

Our editorial estimate is 1–2 hours for the sand, coastal scenery and rest. Add separate time for registration, equipment and changing if including swimming, camping or water sports. Choose views from designated walking areas rather than pushing along coastal rocks to reach a photo spot with wind turbines.
Decide whether to swim only after checking the official beach season, swimming areas, lifeguards and that day’s wave-related restrictions. Descriptions of average depth or clear water do not guarantee safety at every point. For a geology walk, check current trail maintenance and closures, and distinguish a general beach stroll from a longer walking route when planning time.

Wet coastal rocks are slippery and waves can sweep over them unexpectedly. Do not venture far toward the water to look at creatures among the rocks or take photos. With children, choose a short route mainly on the sand and check permitted areas before approaching the water. Bring water, a hat and an outer layer as appropriate for a beach with little shelter from sun and wind.
Official visitor information describes restrictions on pets entering designated swimming areas during the beach season, and notes that access with pets may change with local conditions. Distinguish permission for a beach walk from permission to enter the water, keep pets leashed and clean up after them. Follow on-site guidance for fishing and leisure activities too, rather than using the same space as beachgoers without permission.

Set the actual sandy-beach access point at Gimnyeong as your destination, and do not block parking or passage in village lanes. For buses, check both the walk from your stop to the beach and onward connections to Woljeong-ri or Manjanggul. Walking all the coastal road takes longer than driving, so plan the total distance and return transport separately.
Adding Manjanggul creates a trip comparing the volcanic coast above ground with a lava tube below it. Woljeong-ri is another option for seaside cafés and a village walk. If visiting both beaches, vary your focus between Gimnyeong’s lava rocks and Woljeong-ri’s village and rest stops rather than repeating similar sandy-beach photos.
