Manjanggul is a lava tube about 7.4km long in the Geomun Oreum Lava Tube System, but visitors cannot walk its entire length. General admission is limited to a public section about 1km upstream from Entrance 2. Read the signs alongside the traces of lava flow on the walls and floor to understand how the cave formed, beyond its appearance as a dark tunnel.
The lava column, about 7.6m high at the end of the public section, is a highlight. Compare lava shelves, lava flow lines and lava rafts, and learn about the history of cave exploration through the story of Bu Jong-hyu and his student exploration team. This is not a general visitor route through bat habitats or onward to Gimnyeong Cave; do not treat closed areas as places to explore.

The World Heritage Center’s reopening notice states a reopening date of May 30, 2026, with ticket sales from 09:00–17:00 and visiting hours of 09:00–18:00. The operator’s visitor guide lists standard individual admission at KRW 4,000 for adults and KRW 2,000 for youths, military personnel and children. Check eligibility and required proof for discounts or exemptions. Recheck the closure on the first Wednesday of each month and any temporary closure notices for your visit date.
The public section is an out-and-back visit: walk about 1km in, then return along the same path. Allow 1–1.5 hours as an editorial estimate, with additional time for the entrance steps, photos and queues. Even if it looks short above ground, your walking pace will differ in a dark cave. Enter with time to spare rather than just before closing, and check whether interpretation services are running that day.

The operator recommends sneakers, a warm jacket, and a raincoat and hat in wet weather. The cave is dark and may be wet, so wear shoes with good grip and follow the railings and trail signs. First consider whether children can manage the long out-and-back walk. You do not need to push on to the end if anyone feels uncomfortable or cold.
The operator prohibits high heels, pets and bringing food inside. Do not assume a natural cave has the same access conditions as an ordinary indoor exhibition. Lighting does not make every section bright or level. If someone needs walking assistance, ask the operator in advance about the actual entrance steps and trail conditions.

Use the Manjanggul ticket office and Entrance 2 area as your destination. Check whether a bus stop labeled Manjanggul entrance is at the actual visitor entrance, and allow separately for the final connection and walking distance. Check Jeju bus routes, frequency and return services for your visit date, and choose transport suited to your luggage and companions’ energy.
Combine the cave with Gimnyeong Beach to compare an underground lava tube with the volcanic coast above ground. Bijarim offers a different nature outing, with a slower walk among old trees after the cave. If adding Geomun Oreum too, plan around its reserved start time and hike length first, then fit in Manjanggul before ticket sales close.
