Marado Island (Mara Marine Provincial Park)

Marado is an island for walking among Korea's southernmost-point marker, a lighthouse, low grassland and coastal cliffs. Ferries to Marado can use different departure ports and operators on Jeju's main island. Choose your boarding location and outbound and return sailings first, then plan island walks and meals.

Travel planning at a glance

Check routes to Marado from Unjin Port or Songaksan and use the outbound and return sailings booked with your operator. Unjin Port's official one-way reference is approximately 30 minutes. Leave time to reach the return ferry after the southernmost-point monument, lighthouse and coastal walks, and prepare for sun, wind and cancellations on this island with limited shade.

Marado's southernmost-point monument, lighthouse and coastal scenery

Marado brings low grassland, a village, eastern cliffs and a lighthouse together on a small island. Alongside photos at the southernmost-point monument, observe coastal forms shaped by sea winds and residents' living spaces. Distinguish level island paths from sections near cliffs, and keep away from the coastal edge in strong winds.

The lighthouse, southernmost-point marker and the village's religious and everyday facilities are on the same island, but public access and etiquette differ. Do not assume every building is open inside; follow on-site signs. If adding a meal, calculate walking and waiting time before your return ferry, planning your order separately from the island circuit.

A place to mark the significance of your visit. If there is a photo queue, check your return ferry time first.

Marado coast

Low grassland and steep cliffs share the landscape. View them from designated paths without crossing railings or barriers.

Planning Marado ferries and time to walk around the island

Official Marado information distinguishes ferries from Unjin Port and Songaksan. Avoid mixing different ports, operators and sailing departures when booking; confirm your outbound and return services together. Even with the same operator, your return sailing may be assigned according to your outbound departure, so read the ticketing guidance.

The approximately 30-minute one-way time from Unjin Port is a sailing reference, excluding main-island travel, ticketing, waiting and time on Marado. The 1–2-hour island walk in the official tourism introduction also varies with your companions' pace, meals and photography. Wind and waves can cancel sailings, so check actual service information just before departure.

Marado with children: limited shade and rough-sea preparations

Even without many steep climbs, much of Marado is directly exposed to sun and sea winds. With children or older adults, bring hats, water and outer layers, allow rests, and hold hands near waves or cliffs. A short distance does not justify crossing safety boundaries for photos.

Check the booked operator's latest guidance on required identification and documents for your companions. If anyone is concerned about seasickness, consider the whole itinerary, including the ferry journey. When an important flight or ferry follows your return, a shorter island visit alone does not remove cancellation risk; we suggest choosing a date with more flexibility.

Unjin Port and Songaksan boarding locations and the return to Jeju

For navigation, find your booked boarding location at Unjin Port or near Songaksan, rather than Marado's island address. Distinguish port parking, ticketing deadlines and the actual boarding queue location. Unjin Port passengers should check its official ticket-collection guidance; Songaksan passengers should check their own operator's information.

Reconfirm the dock and departure time for your return ferry when arriving on Marado. After returning, consider only one stop around Sanbangsan or Songaksan according to your direction of travel and remaining stamina. If weather cancels the island trip, switch to safely open coastal areas or indoor activities on Jeju's main island.
