East · Volcanic hills
Seoubong is a coastal volcanic hill beside Hamdeok Beach, overlooking the shore. Choose a short viewpoint walk for a higher perspective than the sand, and first check the branching paths and the time needed to return.
Travel planning at a glance
Seoubong offers elevated views of Hamdeok’s sea. Official information lists free admission and year-round access. The suggested 45–90 minutes is an editorial estimate depending on your route and breaks, and there are slopes. Some surrounding-trail sections are unlit, so plan to return before sunset.

Seoubong overlooks the sandy shore and northeastern sea beside Hamdeok Seoubong Beach. At beach level, the water’s colors dominate; from the hill, you can see the whole coastline. We suggest pausing where the views open up to observe Hamdeok’s terrain rather than rushing uphill just to record a summit visit.
Spring scenery is described as canola flowers against the sea, but flowering times and conditions vary with the season and weather. Jeju Olle Route 19 and several walking paths connect here, so the walking distance depends on your chosen route. Enjoy seasonal scenery from designated paths without entering flower fields or trampling vegetation.

Allow 45–90 minutes as an editorial estimate for walking Seoubong. A short return walk to a viewpoint and a longer walk around the hill take different amounts of time, so read the entrance map first. If visiting Hamdeok Beach too, add separate time for sand-side photos and café breaks; the hill walk is not automatically included.
Official information lists Seoubong as always open with free admission. On-site notices take precedence if weather or maintenance restrictions apply. Start by considering a short walk up from Hamdeok to a chosen viewpoint and back. If descending to another entrance, check your starting point and return transport.

Some sections of Seoubong’s surrounding trail have no dedicated night lighting, so plan to return before sunset. Enjoying night views at the beach is different from continuing along a dark hill trail. For an evening visit, calculate your descent time before your ascent, and do not delay your return for viewpoint photos.
With children or parents, shorten the walk according to the slopes, and wear comfortable walking shoes even when coming directly from the sand. This low coastal hill still has dirt paths that can be slippery and uphill stretches. In strong winds or poor footing after rain, our suggested alternative is a level beach walk.

Use the Seoubong walking entrance on the Hamdeok Beach side for directions. The hill’s land address may differ from the actual pedestrian entrance, so identify your starting point on the map. If using buses, check the route from your beach stop to the entrance and the stop for your return after the walk. Avoid returning late at night.
Seoubong and Hamdeok are close enough to combine the hill and beach. Walking all of Jeju Olle Route 19 requires a separate distance and transport plan from the endpoint, so distinguish it from a short Seoubong walk. If driving east along the coast, you can add Gimnyeong Beach, but you can also skip a second beach if you want more rest at Hamdeok.
