Jeongbang Falls

Jeongbang Falls drops directly from Seogwipo’s coastal cliffs into the sea. Access involves descending steps below the ticket office, so walking conditions differ from Cheonjiyeon’s forest paths. To see the sea and falls close up, first consider steps, wet rocks and restrictions on the day.

Jeongbang Falls dropping into the sea

Jeongbang is a place to watch a waterfall drop directly from coastal cliffs toward the sea. It differs from Cheonjiyeon, centered on a pool, and Cheonjeyeon, which involves walking between several sections. Observe the waterfall together with coastal rock faces and old pine trees. You can also appreciate its overall form from a viewing point beyond the spray.

On-site information also introduces the Seobulgwacha legend and the historical background of Jeju 4·3. Do not treat the legend as proof of an authenticated inscription. Visit with respect for both the history of the victims and the natural scenery. Stay within open viewing areas without crossing visitor barriers or descending onto undesignated coastline for photos.

Visiting via steps

Allow for the effort of both descending and climbing back up.

Historical information

Read respectfully, distinguishing the legend from the historical background of Jeju 4·3.

Jeongbang Falls admission, visiting hours and steps both ways

As checked on 2026-10-14, official individual adult admission is KRW 2,000. The operator lists visiting hours of 09:00–17:50 and last admission at 17:30, but sunset and weather can cause changes or restrictions. Check official rates for discounts, age categories and groups. If arriving late in the afternoon, do not plan for the same evening operations as Cheonjiyeon.

Do not count only the descent from the ticket office; include the climb back up the steps. This guide suggests 45–60 minutes for the falls, photos and return walk. Combining several central Seogwipo stops means repeated parking, entrance approaches and steps. Short visits at each site do not eliminate the travel time between them.

Wet surfaces at Jeongbang Falls with children and parents

Steps and wet coastal surfaces make walking ability important when visiting with children or parents. This guide recommends shoes with good grip. Slow down and follow railings and on-site guidance. This is not a smooth, level pushchair route to the waterfall. Consider the climb back up as soon as you start descending.

In high waves and strong winds, do not force your way closer to the coast in pursuit of a better waterfall view. Weather restrictions and access boundaries take priority over photo locations. Spray can wet clothing and electronics, so be prepared to view from farther away. If loud water bothers a child, a guardian should adjust the distance and length of the visit.

Planning separate visits to Jeongbang, Cheonjiyeon and Seogwipo Port

Confirm Jeongbang Falls’ ticketed entrance at 서귀포시 칠십리로 214번길 37 as your destination. If combining Seobok Exhibition Hall or a coastal walk, check each facility’s actual entrance and walking route. When traveling by bus, include the walk from a nearby stop to the steps and the route back into town after your visit.

Cheonjiyeon Falls offers a contrasting waterfall into a pool and can be considered for a later visit. Saeyeongyo Bridge offers views of Seogwipo Port and the sea. This guide suggests visiting Jeongbang by day, taking a meal and rest in town, then choosing either Cheonjiyeon or Saeyeongyo. Check each site’s closing time on the day.
