Old Jeju houses and everyday life at Jeju Folk Village

Separate mountain, upland and fishing villages and government offices illustrate life in old Jeju. Compare stone walls, courtyards, rooms and kitchen layouts rather than just photographing house exteriors. Finding differences in livelihood and region among similar-looking thatched houses adds depth to the exhibitions.

Inside and around traditional houses are everyday tools, crafts, folk games and other exhibits. Despite their similar names, Jeju Folk Village and Seongeup Folk Village differ in character: the former is a ticketed attraction with exhibition areas, while the latter is an inhabited village. Understanding this helps you choose your itinerary.

Admission fees and separate daytime and nighttime visits

The operator’s daytime fee table lists individual adult admission at KRW 15,000. Listed hours are 09:00–18:00 from March to October and 09:00–17:00 from November to February. Check the ticketing deadline and performance notices for your visit date. If buying discounted tickets, also check eligibility and how to collect or issue them.

Our suggested itinerary starts with the village exhibitions, then spends time at activities and exhibition halls that interest you. Nighttime Lumiverse is not a free extension of the daytime visit: it has separate tickets and hours. If booking daytime admission, check whether your package includes the evening before deciding when to eat dinner.

Choosing folk games with children and preparing for outdoor weather

With children, choose one or two activities such as finding everyday tools or playing folk games rather than rushing from house to house. Select activities and performances according to what is running on your visit date. Assuming that every craft demonstration and game is always available can add tiring queues and walking.

Long walks between outdoor village areas are affected by sun and rain. In hot weather, bring water and hats and include indoor exhibitions and breaks. Even if the attraction opens in rain, some outdoor activities may be restricted, so reduce the area you cover according to your companions’ energy.

A southeastern Jeju itinerary with Pyoseon Beach

Set Jeju Folk Village’s entrance at 표선면 민속해안로 631-34 as your destination. Selecting Seongeup Folk Village leads to a different place, so recheck the facility name in your map search. For buses, check the walk from the stop to the entrance and the return service. Arrange separate transport home for a nighttime visit.

We suggest Pyoseon Beach as a possible next stop. A short beach walk after cultural exhibitions adds contrasting scenery to the day. If also adding Seongeup Folk Village, plan a cultural outing comparing the two sites, but allow for travel and meals rather than packing activities too tightly together.
