Exhibitions explaining Jeju's volcanic island and lava tubes

The center introduces Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes, inscribed as World Natural Heritage in 2007. Follow exhibition explanations of the value of Hallasan Natural Reserve, Seongsan Ilchulbong and the Geomun Oreum Lava Tube System. This does not mean every attraction across Jeju lies within the same World Heritage area.

Understanding how volcanic activity built the island and flowing lava left caves changes how you see rocks and layers at outdoor sites. With children, use exhibition pictures, models and explanations to connect one theme with a place you might visit. Exhibition models and access to the actual natural sites are separate matters.

Hallasan's natural environment

Exhibitions explain why vegetation and volcanic landforms are protected together.

Lava tube system

A theme explaining traces of lava beneath the ground. Check access to each actual cave separately.

Center hours and separate Geomun Oreum reservations

Official center information lists 09:00–17:50, with ticket sales ending at 17:20. Check the first-Tuesday-of-the-month and holiday closures described in tourism information, plus temporary arrangements, for your date. Temporary exhibitions, films and VR activities can change with remodeling and operating schedules; do not plan them as permanently available.

Although Geomun Oreum is nearby, admission to the center does not grant hiking access. Read current official guidance separately for reservation routes, sections allowing independent visits, commentary and meeting arrangements. Plan different starting times and physical demands for an exhibition-only visit and one including a hike.

Natural-heritage exhibitions with children and on rainy days

Indoor exhibitions are an option for learning about nature on rainy days. Films and activities can vary by date, so do not base the visit on a particular screening. With young companions, start with one theme about how Jeju formed and allow breaks.

If hiking Geomun Oreum after the center, distinguish exhibition visiting from mountain-trail preparation. Heavy rain can restrict access to natural sites, and wet trails require different footwear and fitness from indoor exhibitions. An open center does not mean nearby oreum are also open.

The center entrance and natural-heritage visits around Jocheon

Find Jeju World Natural Heritage Center at 조천읍 선교로 569-36 on your map. Distinguish the actual parking and exhibition entrance from a representative Seonheul-ri land address or the center of Geomun Oreum. If adding a reserved hike, go to its official meeting point and time rather than the exhibition rooms.

Before adding Bijarim or Geomun Oreum after the center, check each site's access, reservations and travel time. Choosing exhibitions and one natural site in the Jocheon area can balance learning and walking better than also traveling to distant Seongsan Ilchulbong that day. Replace outdoor sites introduced indoors if restrictions apply that day.
