Halla Arboretum offers woodland walks among Jeju's native plants and a variety of trees within Jeju City. Take time to learn plant names and notice seasonal changes, adding an indoor exhibition or a walk towards Gwangioreum if time allows.
Travel planning at a glance
Halla Arboretum is an urban arboretum with Jeju plants, gardens and woodland paths. Allowing 1–2 hours is an editorial planning suggestion; outdoor walks and indoor exhibitions have different operating arrangements. Jeju City's information lists outdoor admission as free and indoor exhibition hours as 09:00–18:00, or 09:00–17:00 in winter. Check the facilities' notices for the day.

Halla Arboretum lets you observe Jeju's native tree species and other plants up close. Shaded woodland paths, ponds and gardens make it a good way to add nature to a day in Jeju City. Rather than focusing on summit views as you might at an oreum, take time to notice plant names, leaves, fruit and seasonal changes.
Compare plants that grow in Jeju with those from other climate zones. Before photographing the flowers, read the plant labels and look at the shapes of the trees and their surroundings. Particular flowers or fruit cannot be guaranteed on your travel date, so let the plants' actual growth conditions guide your expectations of the seasonal scenery.

Jeju City's official information lists the outdoor gardens and paths as always open and free to visit. The indoor ecology learning center and plant exhibitions are listed as open 09:00–18:00, or 09:00–17:00 in winter. Indoor facilities are listed as closed on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok Day. Access to the outdoor paths does not mean the greenhouse and exhibition rooms are open at the same time.
As an editorial planning guide, allow 1–2 hours and start with the nearby gardens and woodland paths. Adding Gwangioreum means more slopes and walking, so treat it as an optional extension to an easy plant walk. If you arrive late in the afternoon and also want to see the indoor displays, visit those before walking outside.

With children, try a short activity comparing a few trees with different leaf shapes. With parents, plan around nearby shaded paths and rest stops; there is no need to include the uphill oreum section. Walking slowly through one area makes it easier to notice differences between plants than rushing around the entire arboretum.
Take care on slippery, wet woodland paths, and do not pick plants or fruit or enter protected areas. Much of the arboretum is outdoors, so it does not offer a fully sheltered rainy-day visit. Check indoor exhibition opening arrangements when it rains. In strong winds, our planning advice is to choose another indoor activity rather than walk beneath trees.

Set your destination to Halla Arboretum's main entrance on Sumokwon-gil. Nearby commercial attractions and evening programmes have similar names, so distinguish them carefully in map search results. The arboretum and nearby private activity or shopping venues have different opening hours and admission conditions.
If travelling from accommodation in Jeju City or the airport, choose your transport with city traffic and the final walk in mind. Adding Iho Tewoo Beach on the north coast gives you a contrast between shaded woodland and open sea. If rain gets heavier, you could switch to an indoor attraction such as Jeju National Museum. Compare locations and closing times before deciding.
